"Humility isn't thinking less of yourself, it is thinking about yourself less." (CS Lewis). The cornerstone of the spiritual life is humility - recognizing that we are who we are before God, nothing more and nothing less. But how do we gain that virtue in a culture that is constantly telling us that we should promote ourselves? From influencers to marketers telling us "we deserve it", from trophies and accolades to the narcissism of social media, humility is a difficult virtue in today's world - but a necessary one, as we recognize that we are not the center of the universe.
